Black business founder postpartum products

Ruth Martin-Gordon - Founder & CEO

When I was expecting my first child I read a lot about what to expect during pregnancy. My MIL gifted me the 1000-page Mayo Clinic Book of Pregnancy and Baby’s First Year and I spent weeks reading every page. What I didn't read about was; what to expect after giving birth and how to care for myself during my postpartum recovery.

After my scheduled c-section I was diagnosed with postpartum anemia and had to get a blood transfusion. I wasn’t prepared for how completely immobile c-section makes you. I never imagined it would hurt like hell the first time I tried to walk. No one mentioned the sheer exhaustion that happens in the first few days home. I didn’t know you could have so many postpartum ailments; I had an umbilical hernia.

It’s because of all these experiences CODDLE was born.

Hello, I’m Ruth - a wife and mom to two adorable kids. I founded CODDLE to share my postpartum struggles and those of other moms and birthing people while building a community that empowers them through education and safe organic postpartum products. I want every mom-to-be or birthing person prepared for the most life altering experience they will have. Because we should have all the information, care and support we need to prepare for postpartum.

I’ve been featured in ShapeCreate&Cultivate Blog - From  Scratch, Create and Cultivate Wellness Summit Speaker Navigating back to work Postpartum and ToteSavvy blog #bossmom spotlight. I was also a finalist in the Black Girl Ventures + Equilibria Pitch Competition, held May 13th, 2021 and Pipeline Angels Pitch Summit (2024 Spring).
